As part of Chapter's annual support of Martineau Gardens, the charitable free-entry community garden in Edgbaston, we participate in their wonderful children's school holiday fortnight Playscheme. The Playscheme is designed for children who are in temporary accommodation and do not have access to outdoor space.
On the Friday of each week, Chapter cooks a hot lunch for the children and the MG volunteers. This year, we provided pan fried Coley and vegetable pasta and finished with Eton Mess. The kind support from our suppliers Worcester Produce and Channel Fisheries along with volunteers from our staff, allows us to support this way.
Asha, a student at Aston University and one of our key part time waitresses, is pictured here.
Martineau Gardens launched its Small Seeds, Big Dream appeal in June to raise funds to build its new community hub in the heart of the gardens.
The Gardens offer therapeutic horticulture for vulnerable people with a range of support needs including mental health issues, brain injury and learning disabilities. The new building, which already has planning permission, will house the charity's existing operations, but will also allow the team to run additional programmes and welcome many more visitors, including local commuity groups and their activities, throughout the year.
